With so many Overwatch fans used to the name McCree, though, it will take some time for Cassidy to become the norm. As such, to help familiarize players with the name change, a new hero event has gone live inside the game. From now until November 23, players will be able to participate in Cassidy’s New Blood Challenge. As with past hero challenges, exclusive cosmetics and a new comic have been released that all give Cassidy some time to shine.

All The Content In Cassidy’s New Blood Challenge

As is always the case with the Overwatch hero challenges, players will unlock three exclusive cosmetic rewards just by playing the game. First up is a player icon that shows Cassidy in the New Blood skin, and it should make a fine addition to the massive lineup of player icons that are currently available in the game. It is unlocked by playing nine matches, with the outcome of those matches not actually mattering. This is different from older events, which saw players needing to get three wins to unlock each of the limited time items.

The second reward, unlocked at 18 matches played, shows Ana and Cassidy sitting at a table. This spray is a clear nod to the Overwatch comic New Blood, which focuses closely on the two characters and sees them interacting in a similar fashion. With the comic seeing Cassidy positioned as one of the reformed Overwatch’s new leaders, and Pharah and D.Va teased as potential recruits, the first of issue of the five-issue miniseries is worth a read. For those interested, it can be accessed for free in-game or on the official Overwatch website, with the other issues releasing in the coming months.

The reward for 27 matches played, as expected, is a new skin for Cassidy. Dubbed Sandstorm, the outfit is similar to other skins worn by the Overwatch hero. Like Mystery Man and Vigilante, Cassidy’s face is covered up. He sports a unique poncho fitting of someone who would have spent some time in a desert location like Temple of Anubis, and with the outfit appearing in the first issue of the New Blood comic, it has a proper place in the official Overwatch lore.

Alongside these items, Overwatch fans can pick up a few more cosmetics by watching official Twitch streams. For watching for 2 hours, players will unlock an adorable spray that sees chibi versions of Cassidy and Ana fighting back-to-back - just like they do in the first issue of the New Blood comic. A chibi-style Talon soldier and Cassidy are unlocked at four hours watched, with the latter spray showing the hero resting against a bike. Finally, players can get a trio of sprays at 6 hours, with Cassidy, Ana, and Pharah being shown some love.

While this content is unlikely to ease frustrations following the indefinite delay of Overwatch 2, it should prove enjoyable for Cassidy fans. With the New Blood comic teasing many interesting things, it will be fun to see where his story goes next.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
