In a forum thread dedicated to asking players how they would fix Roadhog in his current state, Principal Designer for Overwatch Geoff Goodman announced that Blizzard is working on a solution that could make all parties happy. The character’s offensive strength is likely to remain the same, but the Australian gun-for-hire might be seeing a boost to his defense.

Prior to the nerf, Roadhog was able to dish out an enormous amount of damage with his hook/shot combo, which was more than enough to finish off squishy heroes, as well as dealing significant damage to powerful tanks. Now the outlaw has seen changes that let him shoot more often but with less power, meaning that even the lower-health characters can escape from his combo. In some ways, the nerf even made the hook counter-intuitive for the character, as he would bring enemies in closer to deal more damage.

The update has changed Roadhog’s playstyle dramatically and the lack of easy picks from the enemy team has resulted in less people choosing the character overall. At the time of writing, it certainly looks like Roadhog could use a significant buff to be viable again, and an increase to his already impressive survivability might be an interesting addition.

The Overwatch hero’s playstyle was so iconic to the gaming community that the talented individuals over at Men At Arms have recreated Roadhog’s hook in real-life. The expert blacksmiths went all out, forging the devastating weapon from high-quality steel, serving as a tribute to what used to be the most feared basic ability in the game.

Overwatch is available now for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
