There are some highly anticipated games that are set to hit in 2023, but there are also many that have a much looser release window or are just rumored to be in development. Didn’t Know Was Coming: God Of Rock
Release Date: April 18, 2023
God of Rock sounds and looks like a fever dream, but the game could prove to be one of the more interesting fighters of 2023. Combining that genre with rhythm mechanics, Modus Studios’ upcoming 2023 PS5 game pits legendary musicians in epic battles which are tied to the beat.

Packed with more than 40 original tracks, 12 fighters, and a story mode, God of Rock is shaping up to be a memorable and quirky addition to two genres that rarely produced new IPs. Although developed by another studio, Modus Games published Them’s Fightin’ Herds, which was also a unique fighter.
Rumored: The Lords Of The Fallen
The Lords of the Fallen is a spiritual successor/sequel to 2014’s Lords of the Fallen, one of the earlier attempts at a Souls-like not by FromSoftware. That project garnered a mixed reception at launch since one could not help but compare it to Dark Souls, but Deck13 and CI Games’ release has its fans.
Hexworks’ The Lords of the Fallen is set to be cut from the same cloth, offering hard-hitting combat in a dark fantasy setting. Visually, the game’s released footage paints a gorgeous but nightmarish canvas of horrific Lovecraftian monsters and decrepit Gothic landscapes. The game is slated for a 2023 release, but no specific date has been revealed.
Didn’t Know Was Coming: Age Of Wonders 4

After almost a decade of waiting, Paradox Interactive and Triumph Studios confirmed that Age of Wonders 4 is on the way. The turn-based strategy series has been around since 2003, and the mainline entries have been PC exclusives. However, that is set to change with the May 2023 entry.
For a few decades, 4X strategy games seemed destined to stay away from consoles since they were designed with a keyboard and mouse in mind. Nowadays, developers have demonstrated that the genre can be adapted to home consoles; in fact, Age of Wonders’ sci-fi spin-off, 2019’s Planetfall, serves as a prime example of this changing of the times.
Rumored: Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown
Release Date: 2023
Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown was initially aiming for a September 2022 release, but the racing game has been pushed back to 2023. The open-world racer will feature a realistic portrayal of Hong Kong Island.

While the franchise is not the biggest name on the market, Test Drive has a long legacy dating back to 1997, and Solar Crown is the first entry in the series since 2012’s Ferrari Racing Legends. Solar Crown is being developed by Kylotonn (KT Racing), the same studio behind the WRC games and V-Rally 4.
Didn’t Know Was Coming: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie

2023 is shaping up to be an exciting year for The Legend of Heroes. In March 2023, Trails to Azure will finally make its Western debut, something that has been coming for more than a decade. Originally released on the PSP, the JRPG is a direct sequel to Trails from Zero.
In July 2023, Trails Into Reverie will follow suit, although the title has only been out in Japan for less than three years. Unlike Trails to Azure, Reverie’s combat system is more in-line with the Trails of Cold Steel sub-series, which makes sense since the upcoming release is a sequel to those games. However, the story also connects to Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure.
Rumored: Gothic Remake
Piranha Bytes specializes in ambitious AA open-world games. While Risen and Elex have their positives, the studio arguably peaked with Gothic and its first sequel, at least in terms of popularity. As both of those projects are more than two decades old, they can be difficult to revisit in this day and age, particularly the original Gothic.
Thankfully, THQ Nordic is set to publish a remake of the 2001 release, which will be handled by Alkimia Interactive. Although billed as a faithful remake, the project will modernize the combat system while still retaining the original game’s fundamentals.
