The trailer that Overkill decided to share during the E3 2018 PC Gaming Show consists entirely of in-engine footage. While it was described as gameplay footage during the shot,  it’s not really clear if it’s actual gameplay or simulated gameplay. Either way, future players should be able to get a solid impression of what to expect from Overkill’s The Walking Dead by watching the trailer.

The new trailer shows off The Walking Dead’s four player characters tearing through zombie after zombie with a mix of melee attacks and gunfire. More nuanced functionality like picking up teammates from a downed state and sneak attacks are also shown, giving The Walking Dead some depth beyond standard zombie shooters. A stealthy zombie killer is a surviving zombie killer.

Over the past year, Overkill has introduced all four of The Walking Dead’s player characters, which will make up the game’s 4-player cooperative team.  There’s Heather the kindergarten teacher, Grant the wilderness guide, Maya the surgeon, and Aiden the temperamental architect. All four led successful Washington D.C. lives before the zombie apocalypse, and all four are rediscovering themselves in a world without reason.

Its been a very long wait since Overkill released Payday and Payday 2, both brilliant games that helped define an era of cooperative online shooters. The time has come for Overkill’s return to glory. A 4-player co-op FPS is exactly what PC gaming needs right about now, and Valve certainly isn’t delivering. Hopefully, Overkill’s The Walking Dead is worthy of the studio’s legacy.

Overkill’s The Walking Dead releases on November 6 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
