Yesterday, following the launch of the Spring Festival DLC on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4, Overcooked 2’s publisher Team 17 confirmed that bad news for Xbox One players. “For Xbox folk, there’s been an unforeseen delay,” reads a message on Twitter. Team 17 assured Xbox One players that “the wheels are turning” and that the update would be out as soon as possible. It’s likely that a bug was discovered and the update is having to go through Xbox’s certification process again.

The entire situation has been a bit of a flurry of excitement, both for Overcooked 2 fans and the game’s development team. The Spring Festival update was only just announced on January 20, this past Monday. It was then launched on January 23. It was intended to be a big surprise for fans, which it was.

Overcooked 2’s Spring Festival was also almost certainly intended to coincide with the launch of the Steam Lunar New Year sale, too. Featured discounts on Steam have icons shown for each game, so many games put out updates ahead of big sales. These updates almost always result in bigger sales boosts, because game players love games that receive routine new content. It’s possible that in the rush to get the update ready for the Steam sale, the Xbox One version of the update wasn’t kept fully in mind, but that’s just speculation.

Overcooked 2 routinely does seasonal free updates. The most recent of which, outside of the Spring Festival, was its Winter Wonderland update released in mid-December. On top of the free seasonal updates, Overcooked 2 also has a Season Pass with three premium DLC updates. Because three courses is never enough, the team has since released another DLC pack named Surf ’n’ Turf that takes players on a beach vacation. Odds are, there’s plenty more Overcooked in store in the future, too.

Expect an update on the delayed update for Overcooked 2 on Xbox One as soon as more information is shared.

Overcooked 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
